Social Media Marketing for Artists

Ready to start posting? We highly suggest that you start with one platform like Instagram, and once you have a workflow you can slowly start adding others like Pinterest or TikTok.

Creating Content for Social Media

When creating art to share on social media, keep in mind the work you want to get more of. For example, if you want to work on more greeting cards? Design & share greeting cards!

You can pull pieces from your portfolio, rejected concepts from previous work, old pieces in your current style, the opportunities are endless.

Try posting a mix between client work and passion projects, always make time to create something for fun!

Tip from Belinda Kou: Treat creating content for social media as a daily growth exercise. By holding yourself accountable, you’re creating daily content and behind-the-scenes content to share with your growing audience!

If you’re still feeling stuck on creating work you’d love to share, we created the Portfolio Builder which includes a ton of prompts to work on, and you can access the Portfolio Builder in our Art Licensing Blueprint course!

Re-purposing Artwork

Posting on social media means that your post has a shelf life of 48 hours or less. There’s not enough time in the day to create, revise, finalize, and post on social media – which is where repurposing comes in.

Re-purposing artwork means taking one piece of art and posting it in different ways. Showcasing how a pattern looks on tissue paper, and then a wallpaper, or on clothing are all ways of re-purposing artwork!

Share your work over & over again! It allows people who love your work to see it from a different angle and it allows for people who didn’t see it the first time to see it again.

Remember: Your skillset, your value, your time, and your energy are not defined by numbers.

Posting on social media as an artist can be rough, especially if you’re a perfectionist. Just because a post doesn’t do as well as you expected does not define your work.

When you re-purpose that piece, be sure to check back in and see how it performs and compare them. Maybe you just need some new mockups!
