Project Overview

Menna CD

Client: Menna

We were so thrilled to work with Menna to design her first full-length pop album. She’d already established a strong medieval theme in the music and photography when we came in, and we were excited to play with how those motifs could expand into the cd graphics.

As we explored ideas and inspirations, such as medieval manuscripts and gothic lettering styles, we stumbled onto a vibe we loved that felt totally, uniquely Menna—a collaged look that combined 3D and flat objects, while feeling almost like Menna’s personal diary…or “burn book” if you will.

We spent days pouring through images of real medieval objects and finding just the right fabrics and trinkets to sprinkle throughout the booklet. In combination with hand-drawn lettering on the cover, booklet headlines set in Schmaltzy by Matthijs Herzberg, and body copy in Jenson, the full effect feels like a very special blend of old and new, just like Menna herself.
